 Intensive and Extensive Roofs
The intensive Roof Garden System supplied by Greenscape has been used for over 35 years. It has played an important part in the trend towards more flat roofs being converted from dreary eyesores into vibrant areas of green space.
Green roofs are a great help to getting planning permission for constructions that might otherwise not go ahead. Furthermore, the functional and aesthetic benefits gained from converting an otherwise wasted space into a green roof have meant that roof gardens are specified more than ever.
The "magic" in the system is the lightweight water retentive substrate called Fytocell. This remarkable material has the ability to retain water and release it to the plants as they require it.
Fytocell is a foamed aminoplast resin and has been used in the construction of approximately 1.6 million m2 of roof gardens in the 35 years the foam has been on the market.
Greenscape have a joint venture partnership with the roofing membrane company Callenders. Therefore we can supply and install a complete package, which consists of a waterproof, root resistant membrane to protect the integrity of the roof structure, and a lightweight water retentive roof garden system.
Greenscape can also supply and install an extensive roof garden consisting of a sedum mat planting, when maintenance and roof loading restrictions may be more of an issue.
